Environmental loading manifests itself in many guises, but here we focus on aspects related to waves, wind, and seismic loading. When these conditions prevail against structures there are inevitable consequences, some of which can be anticipated and borne in mind during the design process. However, many structures pre-exist modern design approaches and codes, or experience loads that exceed those for which they were designed. This collection of papers features a range of heritage structures, where there is real concern for their longevity due to environmental loading, either for functional purpose or cultural value. The issue brings together methodologies applied to maintain heritage structures exposed to harsh environmental loadings, with contributions spanning monitoring methods, modelling methods and statistical approaches.
